God is in control of this season. If your trust is in the right place, this season is going to be different for you from what the rest of the world is experiencing or going to experience. I’m writing a new series of things that God is in control of in our present time and situation. Many have their eyes fixed on medicine, their bosses and bank balances and other things. All of these things are uncertain and can let us down at some time or the other. But trusting in the right source won't let us down. Through the next 6 blogs, I will be writing to you about 6 important things that God of the bible is in control of.
In this blog, my focus is about, "Christ over the power of sickness" even as we do that, let us address an important question.
Is sickness a power?
Virus or sickness can be lethal. For a moment take a look back at things that have already taken place to do with the COVID 19 and how it has left 10s of 1000s of people sick and even dead. We think from the science perspective that virus or sickness is just another infectious agent or bacteria. But let me tell you, sickness is more than that. Sickness is a kind of power and it has its origin from sin.
In the bible, we get to see how one man's sin made way for curse and sickness to enter into the world. Because of Adam's sin, we are in mortal bodies and death is inevitable. Sickness is a power that has been ruling the world for ages. Sickness has ruled over men and brought death to people because sickness attracts to sin and curse.
Sickness not only served as a consequence of peoples sin. There are times sickness has served to oppose the proud, there are times sickness has served to abolish certain immoral acts against God. There are times sickness served to reveal the power of God over the wicked. Sickness is surly a power capable of huge destruction. At the same time sickness can be found on its knees before the power of God.
Why some didn't experience the healing?
Sickness or suffering was never part of God's original plan for human beings. Sickness has had no power over Adam and Eve until the time sin came into the world.
Can we walk completely free of sickness in the way Adam and Eve walked before sin came into the world?
This is a difficult question! I have two responses to that.
One, Yes, we can walk in healing and be free from all sickness. I'm a firm believer in God's healing power. And, the last porting of the blog is all about that.
Two, I have seen many faithful people who loved God and believed in the power of healing suffer from sickness and even die. I have found it difficult to comprehend something like that when Jesus has crucified the power of sickness on the cross.
But one thing I believe. In a sin ravaged world like the one that we live in, not everything may look fair. We live in an imperfect world which is not redeemed and filled with God's glory like it was in when created. Creation and our spirit is yearning for a time when we will see a world without even a speck of illness. We yearn for a day full of God's glory. Which means God has already finished the work on the cross. At the same time, it is yet to be completely fulfilled when God returns to restore his bride in her full glory.
Romans 8:21-22
...the creation itself will be liberated from its bondage to decayand brought into the freedom and glory of the children of God.
22 We know that the whole creation has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time. 23 Not only so, but we ourselves, who have the first fruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for our adoption to sonship, the redemption of our bodies
Revelations 21:4
"He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away."
Although we may continue to have questions. We can never fail to notice how the scripture is filled with the picture of a loving God as a healer.
Jehovah-Rapha, the God who heals.
After three days of wandering in the Desert, the Israelites were in desperate need of water. They discovered a river, however, the waters were unfit to drink.
In their situation of emotional disposition and distress, they named the river Mahra which, means bitter. God divinely cleansed the waters by instructing Moses to throw a piece of wood into the water, thereby making it drinkable. Following this miracle, God declared HImself as Jehovah Rapha to His people by proclaiming the following.
Exodus 15:26
“If you listen carefully to the LORD your God and do what is right in his eyes, if you pay attention to his commands and keep all his decrees, I will not bring on you any of the diseases I brought on the Egyptians, for I am the LORD, who heals you.”
His promises continue to remain throughout history. we get to see the healing hand of God all through the scripture. His love for us and to see us free from diseases we got see in the fulfilment of Isaiah's prophecy in Isaiah 53:5
Isaiah 53:5
But he was pierced for our transgressions,
he was crushed for our iniquities;
the punishment that brought us peace was on him,
and by his wounds we are healed.
The power of the Blood and Broken Body of Jesus is the ultimate remedy for all sickness and diseases. There is no greater power or sickness that can stand before what Jesus has already done. I believe he is able to perform miracles and heal people as he did 2000 years ago.
You may be someone who needs healing in your body or you may be someone who is believing for healing in someone's life. My encouragement for you is to fix your eyes on Him and He won't disappoint you.
I believe this is a time when 1000s of people are in need of healing in their lives. Not just a healing from a virus. There are people who need healing spiritually, mentally, emotionally too. When we believe that God still heals we become instruments in His hand to touch the lives of 1000s
Matthew 10:8
Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse those who have leprosy, drive out demons. Freely you have received; freely give.
In conclusion, let's believe that christ is over the power of sickness. May God use us to bring healing in many peoples lives. Thank you for taking the time to read. God bless you.
