Christ over recession. Part: 06

Writer's picture: Augustine J AlbertAugustine J Albert

Welcome to the last "Christ over everything series". Today's topic is something that I am writing prayerfully for people who may be facing the brunt of the poor economic situation. Because of the current lockdown and the potential post lockdown crisis, many are in worries. Everything including from small and big business to the government is being affected by this. This is not to frighten anyone, but the fact could sometime be harsh. The world is almost ensnared in a devastating recession delivered by the coronavirus pandemic. I don't have every information about the possible complications we will go through, but surely these are worrying times for many.

Having said that, my intention is to bring hope through these blogs. Therefore, I want to uplift your spirits and giving you a few biblical guidelines to walk through these difficult times.

God's favour will lead you through.

Do you know what is more powerful than wealth? It is God's favour. Let's not be surprised when I say, "everyone does not carry certain favour!" Grace is the only gift that is freely given to us. Rest, through God's empowerment and your obedience, you make way for you to attract God's favour over your life.

Therefore, we need to attract God's favour. And in order to attract God's favour, we trust and obey the word of God. Take a moment to read these two wonderful scriptures below.

Psalms 5:12
Surely, LORD, you bless the righteous; you surround them with your favour as with a shield.
Psalms 84:11
For the LORD God is a sun and shield; the LORD bestows favour and honour; no good thing does he withhold from those whose walk is blameless.

Let me encourage you by saying, God's grace is power. Power is all we need to walk each day in righteousness and in blamelessness. His grace will cover your weakness and lead you from strength to strength. As a result, you are walking in favour each day.

Favour is so powerful that you will not feel a lack in the midst of the most powerful crisis. People around you will feel the pressure of not having enough to endure this season, but your head will not bow in shame. Favour will protect you from all the dangers. Because God will be your shield and protection over you, your family, your business or your income of any sort.

Did you notice, psalms 84:11 says, "For LORD God is a sun..." Which means, even though the world may go through dark times, you who carries God's favour over your life will always walk under the powerful light of hope, you will always have the sun shining down on you. It also says "For LORD God is Shield..." Which means when the enemy sends firey arrows of discouragement and hopelessness your way, you will not be harmed by them.

In this season of difficult times, God's favour will lead you through.

Your obedience will lead you through.

What is better than trusting in an all-knowing God? I believe nothing! God is way ahead of time and he knows everything that is happening. There are things that you don't know and can never understand, that is why we need to be obedient to His word and the gentle voice in this season. You will reach the end of this season and look back and you will be surprised how wonderfully God led you through. It's going to be because of you navigated your way through the obedience to God's voice.

Let me share a story from the bible of a similar situation. It was a time of recession and there was not enough in the land. This is the story of Isaac. Read on.

Genesis 26:1‭-‬6
A severe famine now struck the land, as had happened before in Abraham’s time. So Isaac moved to Gerar, where Abimelech, king of the Philistines, lived. The Lord appeared to Isaac and said, “Do not go down to Egypt, but do as I tell you. Live here as a foreigner in this land, and I will be with you and bless you. I hereby confirm that I will give all these lands to you and your descendants, just as I solemnly promised Abraham, your father. I will cause your descendants to become as numerous as the stars of the sky, and I will give them all these lands. And through your descendants, all the nations of the earth will be blessed. I will do this because Abraham listened to me and obeyed all my requirements, commands, decrees, and instructions.” So Isaac stayed in Gerar.

In the middle of a recession, God gave him instruction. Isaac was obedient to the voice of God and that made Him prosperous in the middle of a recession.

I was surprised when I read this. Because it's ironic to me that a man and his household is being blessed and growing prosperous in wealth and all things in the middle of a nationwide famine. Well, I believe this can happen to you as well.

What is more powerful than wealth? That's right! It's is God's favour! It's also the blessing of the God of the bible and his promises over your life. Be obedient to his voice more than the other voices you keep hearing. Let not news, peoples opinion or the enemies discouragement be the food you feed on. May the word of God be your food and strength for this season. God will lead you!

Thank you for taking the time to read. If you were blessed, share this to encourage others too. God bless you.
