The present situation is challenging because COVID 19 is stirring up fear in many hearts. There may be several reasons why we are afraid. The fact that this is a new virus and vaccination is still not been found and moreover, for many people, a pandemic is something we are experiencing for the first time. All these thoughts can be quite daunting. People from all walks of life have been experiencing this emotion. Be it people who are in the highest position or be it the people who are simple wage workers. Everyone is experiencing fear because of the uncertainty of the hour.
Or, maybe the kind of fear you are experiencing may have nothing to do with COVID 19. In this blog, we are going to understand how the power of fear can be arrested by the power that God has given to us.
Are you meditating on fear?
As the majority of the people across the world are staying home because of the quarantine they have been given so much time in there hands like never before. This also means people have more time and fewer things to do. As a result, many are sitting at home feeding on information through Tv or social media platforms. Being aware or staying updated is good. But, unknowingly many people have been feeding in and meditating about the potential problems that are going to happen. This gradually will take people to a place of phobia or psychological issues. I hope this explains why in some countries people started hoarding essential goods and even toilet papers. Fear can lead people to mental pressures.
Eliminating fear by knowing the God of the Bible.
(Joshua 1:9-11)
Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.” So Joshua ordered the officers of the people: “Go through the camp and tell the people, ‘Get your provisions ready. Three days from now you will cross the Jordan here to go in and take possession of the land the LORD your God is giving you for your own.’ ”
Soon after the death of Moses the leader of Israel, Joshuah faces an unprecedented challenge in his life. He is now the one in charge of leading 1000s of people into the promised land. I believe there was fear in his heart when he saw a mountain like responsibility. Now that he has to take care of a multitude, leading them as a leader, be their commander to fight nations, etc. All of these thoughts could have been overwhelming for Joshuah. In that situation, we hear God say to Joshuah. "...do not be afraid"
God eliminated fear from Joshuah and helped him to put his confidence in Him. That simple encouragement was enough for Joshuah to forget about all the challenges. He found new strength in the Lord and went ahead to prepare for the days to come with boldness and courage.
God is encouraging you the same, "do not be afraid"
Do you know that God encourages us to fear not 365 times in the Bible, one for each day of the year? God obviously wanted us to "get the message" to stop worrying, as there are 365 mentions of "fear not" in the Bible.
When we form a healthy relationship with God and understand God's love for us and the eternal grace and mercy, we will realize that there is no real need for fear in our life.
God has in control of all things because of the fact that we are bought by the power of the sacrifices He made for us on the cross of Calvary. Now, that's our confidence!
Here are a few scriptures that I want you to read and read again and read again (because that's how you meditate)
Psalm 31:24
Be strong and take heart, all you who hope in the LORD.
1 Corinthians 15:58
Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.
Isaiah 54:4
“Do not be afraid; you will not be put to shame. Do not fear disgrace; you will not be humiliated. You will forget the shame of your youth and remember no more the reproach of your widowhood.
Along with meditating on the scripture, there are other things we can do to eliminate the power of fear. Here are some practical steps:
Keep away from unwanted news from social media
Keep your mind active with the word of God.
Indulge in relaxing hobbies that will help your mind.
Cut of companies that are not helping you.
Have a routine and plan for your day.
No matter what you are hearing or seeing in this season, my encouragement is for you to keep your confidence in Jesus and He won't let you down. So don't be afraid. God is in control!
Thanks for taking the time to read. God bless you!
